Florida Office of Financial Regulation
The Office of Financial Regulation (Office) is dedicated to safeguarding the private financial interests of the public by licensing, chartering, examining and regulating depository and non-depository financial institutions and financial service companies in the State of Florida. The Office protects consumers from financial fraud, while preserving the integrity of Florida’s markets and financial service industries.
Legislation from 2002 placed the regulation of banking, securities and insurance under two appointed officials who are selected by the Financial Services Commission. The commission, which comprises the governor and Cabinet, appoints the commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation and the commissioner of the Office of Insurance Regulation. Both offices are administratively housed in the Department of Financial Services but report directly to the Financial Services Commission.
On October 14, 2008, the Financial Services Commission appointed Alex Hager, Acting Commissioner.
